Stratford Centre balances travel with local shopping

An in-depth understanding of travel retail destinations and the unique nature of shopping centres in metropolitan suburbs enabled GCW to offer expert advice to owners Land Securities, Catalyst Capital and most recently Frogmore Investment Managers.

GCW’s leasing advice was focussed on the centre’s USP – its proximity to one of London’s busiest transport hubs and more recently the arrival of Westfield Stratford, regional shopping centre. GCW understood that the Stratford Centre could not compete directly with Westfield but could thrive if it concentrated on the most appropriate tenant mix. This tenant line-up needed to balance the convenience needs of the travelling public with residents who required a more diverse comparison shopping offer, particularly in fashion.

The success of GCW’s approach is illustrated in higher rental values at the Stratford Centre, rising from £70 to £140+ Zone A, increased footfall year on year, and consistent trading at or near to 100% occupancy.
