Halfords gears up for new style cycle store

October 2006

Halfords, the car parts and bicycle retailer, is trialing a standalone chain of cycle stores from next month. The retailer, which sells one in three cycles bought in the UK, will open its first Bikehut store in Brighton, where they were advised by GCW.

Two more are due to follow before the end of the year with a potential rollout of up to 50 outlets throughout the UK. Halfords will sell moderately priced bicycles, at £200 or above, in the stores. The trial will run for up to nine months before it decides whether to expand the concept nationwide.
