Thornfield signs Vue for £220m Bury scheme

January 2007

Thornfield Properties has signed Vue Cinemas as the anchor for the leisure element of its £220m The Rock scheme in Bury, Greater Manchester. The 740,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme in the centre of the town has already signed Debenhams as retail anchor.

Vue will operate a 50,000 sq ft 10-screen cinema at the scheme and will relocate from its current out of town location at Park 66 in Pilsworth. The leisure and residential element of The Rock contains eight restaurant units, bowling, a bingo hall operated by Gala, 200 flats and 1,000 parking spaces. The retail element includes 50 shop units covering 450,000 sq ft. The centre will be anchored by a 105,000 sqft Debenhams department store and several MSUs are already under offer to leading fashion retailers.

Construction on the scheme is about to begin, with completion scheduled for Autumn 2009. CBRE and Gooch Cunliffe Whale are letting agents for the development.
